Composer

Born in the city of Kyoto in 1929. he graduated from science department of Kyoto University. He studied composition under Tomojiro Ikenouchi and Akira Ifukube. He started his carrier as a composer after he won the first place of the orchestra section at the NHK~ Mainichi Music Competition in 1955 with Introduction et Allegro concertante. His major works include Achime (1957). Cryplogame (1958). Piano Trio (1987). and opera 'Silence" (based on a novel by Shusaku Endo in 1993). He also won such awards as Otaka award for Piano Concerto No 2 (J 978), award of excellent of Japan Art Festival (1973). Fukuyama award (1974). Sumory Music prize (1978). Purple Ribbon Medal (1990). Mainichi Arr Prize for opera 'silence" (1994). Cultural award for the citizen of Tokyo. Kyoto Music Grand Prix and Mobil Music Prize.

He is a former professor of the Tokyo National University of Music and Arcs. He also wrote excellent music for movies such as the Shinobu Gawa and the Deep River and stage dramas such as the Demon and God and Andromache.
