Born in Miyagi Prefecture 1875. Studied Kyushu-kei koto with his mother, Yamashita Shōkin (山下松琴) while living in Sendai, then Ikuta ryū koto with Takano Shigeru in Tokyo. Recorded with Nakao Tozan. Wrote "The History of Japanese Music". Died in Kyoto on March 12, 1931.
